Turn off the caps lock beep by going here: control panel > accessibility options > “use the toggle keys” (uncheck this box).

Public Folders

To setup Public folders in Outlook as a mailbox follow these steps:

1. In Outlook create a new folder
2. In Exchange right click the new folder /all tasks/enable mail
3. In Exchange right click /properties/ enter an email address
4. In Postini create a new user account for email address or better yet add it as an alias to PublicFolders@

FIN

Also check the permissions and the Exact Target user alias. And don’t forget to quit the server and Outlook and ignore the conflict messages.

Email Distribution Groups in OSX

Here are directions for dealing with v Cards and distribution groups in OS X

Mac Mail
1. Open Address Book
2. Choose: File / Import / vCards
3. Locate the vCard you want and import it
4. Choose: File / New Group (Give the Group a Name)
5. Click on “Last Import” in the “Group” column
6. Select all of the names in the “Name” column
7. Drag the names into the group folder you created in step 2

Entourage
1. Open Entourage Address Book (On My Computer)
2. Drag in the vCard you want to import
3. Highlight all of the names you just imported and hit ”Add Group”
4. Name the group and check the box by “Don’t show addresses when sending to group”

Moving User Mailboxes in Exchange

To move a users mailbox location right-click the mailbox and select “Exchange Tasks” to Open the wizard; Move Mailbox > select destination (Mailbox Store).
You must log off the server before you will see any changes.

Set Word 2007 to Single Spacing

The default setting for Word 2007 is double spaced text. To fix this choose / Home / Change Styles / Style Set / Word 2003 / Set As Default.

Opening Another User’s Mailbox in Outlook 2007

1. Choose Tools, Account Settings to open the Account Settings dialog box.
2. Click your Exchange Server account and then click Change. The Change E-mail Account dialog box displays.
3. Click More Settings to open the Microsoft Exchange dialog box.
4. Display the Advanced tab.
5. Click Add to open the Add Mailbox dialog box.
6. Type the owner’s name and click OK.
7. Click OK to return to the Change E-mail Account dialog box.
8. Click Next.
9. Click Finish to return to the Account Settings dialog box.
10. Click Close.

You’ll also need to grant permissions on the Exchange server > User > Exchange Advanced > Mailbox Rights.

Make Vista Less Annoying

I found the settings to turn off Vista’s annoying user account control (UAC)…… Open control panel and search for UAC, uncheck the box that says “Use user account control (UAC) to help protect your computer”, click ok and reboot. Next you’ll want to turn off the warning balloons that the last actions will create. Open security center, on the left side go to “Change the way security center alerts me”, choose “Don’t notify me and don’t display the icon (not recommended).

Disclaimer: This can be a bit of a security risk so use at your own peril. To me it’s worth the risk because UAC is beyond annoying and will easily double your daily mouse clicks. Always keep a good backup and if you pick up a virus nuke your machine and start over. It’s not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be.

Remove Classic OS 9

You can trash most of the folders no problem but the system folder will give you a hard time.
You need to trash the Classic preference pane and move the system folder to the desktop. Then restart and you should be able to trash it.

Vista Root Certificates

When installing certificates they need to go into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder.
View these by running certmgr.msc

Public Folder Rules in Exchange

This feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account.

You must have Owner (Owner permission: With Owner permission you can create, read, modify, and delete all items and files and create subfolders. As folder owner, you can change the permission level that others have for the folder. This permission does not apply to delegates.) permission for a public folder to create or modify rules (rule: One or more automatic actions taken on e-mail messages and meeting requests that meet certain conditions, along with any exceptions to those conditions. Rules are also referred to as filters.) for it.

1. In the Folder List (Folder List: Displays the folders available in your mailbox. To view subfolders, click the plus sign (+) next to the folder. If the Folder List is not visible, on the Go menu, click Folder List.), in the Navigation Pane (Navigation Pane: The column on the left side of the Outlook window that includes panes such as Shortcuts or Mail and the shortcuts or folders within each pane. Click a folder to show the items in the folder.), right-click the public folder you want to create or modify rules for, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
2. Click the Administration tab.
3. Click Folder Assistant.
4. Do either of the following:
* To create a rule, click Add Rule.
* To modify an existing rule, click a rule in the list, and then click Edit Rule.
5. Enter the conditions that the item must meet for the action to occur. For more conditions, click Advanced.
6. Under Perform these actions, select the options you want.

Note When you create a rule, it is active by default.
